I have tried the suggestions given by some of you,
Though I have made some progress but I am still far off from the Goal,
Try out some actual text processing in devnagari (database - mysql etc) on
linux.
I am trying on RedHat 7.0 with kde 2.1 & X - 4.0.2
I have got the Asian bdf fonts + Couple of other bdf's
ran mkfontdir,
added the dir using xset +fp <font dir>
Also added the paths for X Font Server
(font server does not complain on startup so I presume it has accepted the
new settings)
Added FontPath to XF86Config
Used Load freetype in XF86Config
Also Tried the Locale Settings.
But my emacs still shows boxes when using devnagri encoding / Language
Options.
And trying to type some text after changing the Input Method to
devnagri-hindi-transliteration (tried a couple of others also)
(using CTRL \ )
Also, where in X (not emacs) can I see a list of current fonts.
The Japanese support in emacs / X is quite mature and
seems to work out of the box, Shift Jis, EUC & ISO JIS all,
including KANA / KANJI
They also have a full functional terminal, kterm, I have setup / tried it on
FreeBSD and it works great.
Don't we have any such thing for devnagri ?????
