u r saying u hav windows on other partition??
do u hav any NTFS partition??
i was facing the same prob when i was having
NTFS partition ready... before installing linux.

i deleted tht partition.....as nothing worked....
installed linux n then created NTFS again. it worked.

as when NTFS is loaded, BIOS searches for the LILO...
and it doesn;t find the loader within first 1024 cylinders,
generating the error of cylinder number.
