Is that X-4? Just play around it a bit. xf86config is not that
straightforward when it comes to setting mode preferences.
Also make sure that there is no XF86Config in current dir. It will pick
that first.
Better do 'startx >err 2>&1' And see the messages in file err. They can
give some clue...
