Are telnet and ftp commented out in /etc/inetd.conf?  In that case,
excellent, let them stay commented out.

Install (and use) openssh 2.5.x (whatever's the latest) and rsync.

Oh, and if that machines' connected directly to the internet, upgrade it.
Zoot with all the defaults could well be called Root instead, it has that
many security holes.
