hi amit
        make sure you are not running any dynamic routing protocol daemons in your 
box,like routed,or gated.this would automatically set route.so disable 
routing protocols,if u have static route.second if u manually set route on 
the command line the changes will not remain on reboot.either use linuxconf 
to set route,or edit /etc/sysconfig/network and add the line
GATEWAY=<ipaddress of gateway> on a redhat/mandrake box.
for changes to be permanent.
or add the route command in /etc/rc.local.
