That's bit on harsh on kmail. I have used it for since PCQ shipped RHL5.2(+/- a
release... Not sure..) and never experienced that problem.
Please check kmail configuration. Try playing with view->smart/inline/iconic
attachemnts.. Frankly never experienced that. Even KMail with KDE1.1.2 was quite
usable...
