Did the card come with these instructions ? Since the
ptmodule.c file is included, I assume that you compiled the
driver (or did they come bundled in) ? It is worth noting that
.o files are kernel version specific.

Okay

Did this step work without problems ?

That is the recommendation from the manual. You may have to do
things differently if seyon is not readily available ...

seyon - Full-featured native X11 communications program. Some
features are:

a) Dialing module/ directory
b) Terminal emulation (DEC VT-102, ANSI etc)
c) Script language support
d) zmodem

This is an optional package, and is not available with single
CD packs of any major distro. You need to download it from
your distro site or from the "seyon" site ... search on any of
the search engines. My preference is www.google.com

What you need is something to test that the card is working.
Any configurable dialing software will do ... I'd use
"minicom" on console if I were you. This maybe in the skimmed
down distros like PCQ RH on a single CD.

I do not have an internal modem ... but basics remain the
same.

If you succeeded in inserting the module with insmod without
errors things should be in order .... Install minicom or seyon
and dial your ISP or any other telephone number .... after
requisite RTFM and setting dialing mode, modem init strings
etc.
