Hi all,
We are developing a large scale email application - qmail as MTA and
our own API for mail retrieval to end users. Both qmail and our API
run on RedHAT Linux 7.1 with SMP patches.

When we run our performance tests - with mail directories stored on a
local drive we get very good performance and throuput - in the ranges
of 50-60 ms.

When we run the tests on a NFS mounted drive (EMC storage device) -
the response times drop down drastically - to the order of 2-3
seconds.

Is there some NFS or network level optimization we should be doing to
get a better throughput?

We noticed that when we run the tests the second time - the
performance is much better. The first time access to NFS mounted
files and directories is very slow. Is this related to OS Swap
spaces, caching etc?

waiting for your reply
