I believe you are talking of the oracle database server and
not an application server :-) No  application server should
take that much resources.

The requirements stated are for optimal functioning and NOT
installation. Oracle is meant for large databases with many
simultaneous users ... Except for speed, with a  handful of
users you may not face problems. Good enough for small time
jobs, but will not perform to its potential when real heavy
demands are placed upon it ... Believe me, oracle is a real
resource gobbler ... some organisations have dedicated ser-
vers for oracle database alone !

To remove a HUGE file  which causes crash of ls & rm commands
do:
$ cat /dev/null > mybigfile
$ rm mybigfile
