Qmail makes a rather good server for pumping mails out at a fast rate.

For incoming mail, I recommend that you dont have exchange listening on a
public IP port 25 - it is a security hole par excellence.

Best - have a sendmail server accept incoming mail, do filtering (antispam,
virus etc) and pass all incoming mail to the exchange box using a
virtusertable entry.
