The package would normally mention where the
associated stuff shd be installed. You could try

(1) check the package's top Makefile to see if 
$PACKAGE_VARIABLE=/the/correct/path
(2) # updatedb
(3) have a coffee
(4) else try installing the whatever.tar.gz instead of
the whatever.rpm
