Mplayer is the best around...

you can bypass the *EXAGGERATED* warning that mplayer gives you

--disable-gcc-check I think is the option (it's there in the warning
message itself... read it carefully)

and then it'll ask you for a pass phrase.. hit enter once .. and it'll
tell you what the pass phrase is ("2.96 is broken" or something like that)

after that you are all ready to compile mplayer.
