Hi ,
i have intel celeron500 system with i810 internal sound(ac'97) in it.I
have installed caldera linux edesktop 2.4(kernel version 2.2.14)with
kde.i just cannot make my machine sing.
I got ALSA driver 0,9,0beta8(latest) and did the following in the
console.
./configure
make install
./snddevices
"edited modules.conf".
modprobed snd-card-i8xo(i also tried modprobe snd-i8xo as in sound
howto)
at this point i get an error message that " can't locate module i8x0 "
i even checked the /var/log/messages file which showed the same message.
I also did alsaconf in which i selected i810 and after a series of
questions about data rates it wasn,t able to test play sound and told
that it was probably because the sound card not detected correctly.(it
inserted it's own code in conf.modules & i deleted mine).
Now In the sound information i see the following.

I also could not open mixer : it tells that i have no permission for
execution even after i did a chmod 777 /dev/mixer*)
please help my system make a decent sound.
