Is it always the case? Does it happen only when minimizing/maximizing/animation on the screen? This would be the case of a too-fast RAMDAC setting for your card. Read the READMEs that came in with X documentations. While configuring your card, use auto-detect for RAMDAC - which would usually result in a safer frequency.
