You see the problem is this...

the name that linux gives your font is different from what the site people
have given in the HTML document (the font's windows name)

So what you need to do is go to the directory with the ttf fonts and edit
the font.alias file to make your fonts work in the browser.

And I don't think the encoding really matters you should be able to set it
to anything you want ... as long as your apps know to pick up the font.
