As u might be aware, SM56 is a software driven modem. It is not
like a normal external modem. One needs software driver in linux
too. If can lay ur hands on PCQ 7.1 CDs, then it has the reqd
driver's rpm on the second CD. Else u can download it from
motorola's wbsite or http://winmodem.org. I've forgotten the
exact URL from where I downloaded the driver. Little searching on
the website can yield the link to the driver. One word of caution
though, u'll need 2.4.x series kernel to use the driver. It does
not work with earlier version of kernel. Also browse thru' recent
mail archives. U'll find lots of good info on the topic.
