This ranting of mine an the ethics of the issue was voiced a long time ago ... This explanation too is not quite satisfactory. It is obvious that RH may not permit changes in "some" scripts. The whole of Linux is mainly Open Source. What distinguishes distros are differences in installation methods/ boot disks, init process regulation, installation policies, package management and sys- adm functions. Either all should change like in the case of SuSE, MDK and other rpm based distros, or make your own to stake a claim for your flag-banner. The Mumbai based firm which claimed to be the "first Indian distro" was greeted with flak because of the same reason. I have not seen PCQ-7.1, nor do I know the "changes" brought in PCQ from the original RH-7.1. If the changes are cosmetic, these are of no concern. If bugfixed binaries are included, it is only to be annotated ... Firstly, are the changes justified or are they changes for the sake of changes ? Are the reasons for not distributing the original RH-7.1 justifyable ? Even the ver number 7.1 seems odd for initial release of an "original" distro. If RH has objections to tinkering why not switch to debian which is fully GNU ... or make your own ...
