Happy Deepavali wishes to begin with.
I recently assembled a PIII 800 on a Mercury i810 FST
Motherboard and installed PCQLinux 7.1 on the system. The problem is
with X server. The machine works well with M$98 and the display is
normal. However with XFree86 4.0.3 (bundled with PCQL 7.1) the machine
throws me back to the Login screen after only a few minutes soon after
logging in.
I have solved(rather worked around it) by making a fluke of a
decision to "Not assign an IRQ for VGA" in the BIOS. Now X is working
100% fine but with a slight perceptible drop in performance. Would
going back to XFree86 3.3.6 with the XFCom server solve this problem ? I
am specifically asking if anyone has experienced this problem and solved
it that way or any other way for that matter ?
