If you install a tarball, how will your rpm db get updated? Ignore it.

If you installed sendmail successfully from the tarball and are running it,
no problem.
telnet to your.sendmail.server 25 and see what you get at the banner.
220 server.example.com ESMTP Sendmail 8.11.6/8.11.6; Tue, 13 Nov 2001 20:33:10 -0800
