DO NOT PANIC.
YOU WILL NOT LOOSE EVEN A SINGLE BIT OF DATA.
BUT MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR MBR at least the first 1024
bytes BEFORE YOU DO ANY OF THIS METHOD.

like

dd if=/dev/hda of=/backup.mbr bs=1024 count=1

Do do this make sure you have a bootable cd either
windows or linux handy.

Do one thing first of all remove the MBR

to do that
try either lilo -u the device name but if you have
installed the boot loader in MBR you should use the
appropriate device name

for an example the first hard disk becomes
/dev/hda the second becomes /dev/hdb

then try
lilo -u /dev/hda

the run fdisk from linux
activate your partition that you want to boot.

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id
System
/dev/hda1 1 261 2096451 c
Win95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/hda2 262 784 4200997+ 1c
Hidden Win95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/hda3 * 785 2160 11052720 83
Linux
/dev/hda4 2161 2205 361462+ 82
Linux swap

Like do you see the '*'

to do that from within fdisk press 'a' then choose the
partition
that is it but ***you should not see more than one
star***(because * is a toggling switch ). that may
your bios will not boot the hard disk or it will boot
using the first active partition depending upon the
BIOS version.

then you should be OK to boot your big head WIN2K.

If you use WIN98 CD then try running 'fdisk /mbr'
first of all

then reboot -- I MEAN IT.

then again boot from CD.

then run fdisk again

set your active partition.
