The oracle 8i does not work on redhat 7.0,7.1 as there is no support by oracle to
redhat distributions after 6.2. I have installed oracle 8i on susi 7.0 and is working
fine. For the oracle lower version of glibc is required which is provided by susi and
not by redhat.
Hence best solution is to use susi.
