Hello everbuddy first of all, i am a total dumbo abt networking.. so don't get mad if it seems as if a prehistoric creature is the author of the mail i have started to use an app called vnc (virtual network computing) which allows a user to access a remote computer's desktop over a network..i have plans to introduce the thing in my school lab here, the remoe viewer has 2 options to view the desktop 1) he can use a standalone app provided in the vnc package 2) he can use a java based interface thru a browser
now, i installed the vnc server package (the client package is supplied with it) and started a vnc server the server listens to the port 5801 for http connections but when i pointed my browser to http://<my ip addrees>:5801/ the thing gives an "operation timed out" mssg after sometime i asked a friend of mine to try the address fro his house and he got it without any poroblem he tried to get the thing running in his own machine and succesfully accessed the desktop of his own machine thru his browser then i tired the thing in winblows..and i got an error "local loopback addresses are disabled" what is causing this error? is it something to do with my isp?? plzz help cheers sayamindu : ####[ Linux One Stanza Tip (LOST) ]########################### Sub : Linux Users Counter LOST #058 There is no way to know the exact number of Linux users in the world ... a counter was set up five years ago.
