All:

You all knew that this note was coming, and we are sorry that we made you wait this
long to hear officially.

The managers of the event are sitting here at the table. They all look
tired, but most of them wanted to be here as this note was sent.

Some background first:

This year has probably been the worst in history as far as the IT industry is
concerned, but we need to look beyond just our industry - it has been a bad year for
everyone. And this was *before* September 11th. After that, things just got worse.

Never was this made clearer to us than when we set out to obtain
sponsorship for our event.

We asked around, we begged, we wailed - no good.

We all knew what this would lead to - without a sponsor, this event would not happen.
We needed a lot of money, but there was none to be found.

In sheer desperation, the managers started pooling in money, but it
quickly became clear that we weren't even coming *close* to getting the required
amount together.

At a meeting on Wednesday, it was therefore decided to do what we all knew had to be
done.

We decided to call off the event.

Gottcha!

Ladies and gentlemen (and everyone else) - the managers of Linux
Bangalore/2001 are happy (hey, that should be completely and totally
screamingly deliriously overjoyed!) to announce that the event has secured a sponsor.

This sponsor is a company who not only cares about Linux, but is willing to back those
words up with a commitment to the Indian Linux community by making sure that this
event not only happens, but happens in the only way acceptable - completely, and as
planned.

We are pleased to announce that the Hewlett Packard Company (India
Software Operations) has agreed to wholly sponsor Linux Bangalore/2001.

Now, all ye doubting thomases, naysayers, pessimists and other
non-believers - let's get back to work - there are only 72 hours to a day, and that's
not nearly enough.

;-)
