Theoretically possible, but not advocated ... There is some C program for this sort of thing on freshmeat. I forget the name. This kind of "permanent-on-the-tty" stuff interferes with several apps. Specially, true for the last line which is the scroll line. Since, screen i/o is done in a different manner by different programs, such things may pose functional impediments. There is a program called "vcstime" which shows a cute digital clock constantly on the right-top of screen. Even that poses shadows with back-scrolls with less. It is advisable to run a small script at intervals, if your friend is very keen to know how long he has been logged on ... Placing one below off-the-cuff. Should work, and give all the info your friend needs, inclu- sive of the multiple ttys that he may be logged into. ----------<snip>--------------------- #!/bin/sh echo "User tty date/time" echo who | grep $USER echo DAYTE=`date "+%a %d/%m/%Y %T"` echo "Current date & time : "$DAYTE exit 0 ----------</snip>-------------------- HTH Bish -- : ####[ Linux One Stanza Tip (LOST) ]########################### Sub : Clock on Console LOST #224 To have a cute digital clock on the right top corner of your console put the following in your system startup scripts : vcstime & # 'vcstime' is a part of console-tools package.
