I meant AUTH over TLS if no client certificates are presented. IOW, you
don't need client side certificates for SMTP authentication over TLS.

I am trying to figure out how to allow PLAIN and LOGIN only over TLS.
CRAM-MD5 and DIGEST-MD5 should be accepted even if a TLS session is not
requested. Any idea?

BTW: I think AUTH is broken in the latest Sylpheed builds. It uses the
POP account details for authentication instead of the SMTP AUTH one!
