disable APM from BIOS, do not start apmd, disable hdd spindowns if you
have any, but mostly i think you are talking about X.

You can do a xdpyinfo -s in your .Xclients or give the screensaver disable
option to the /etc/X11/xdm/Xsevers file, where X is actually started up
