You can read pop or imap mail in pine, but is there any point in staying
online all the while you are reading mail?

You know something?  eth.net runs on M$ systems - there isn't going to be any
/var - let alone /var/spool/mail ... take a look at the pop3 syntax in pine.
Forgot what - but for imap it is pine -f {imap.satyam.net.in}Inbox etc

Good lord ... that's what the sendmail (or whatever) on your box is for.
