Check from network if available. X freeze is not same as machine freeze. Only time machine freezes is when a driver locks up. It happens with X on i810 sometimes but very rarely. > 2. SO5.2 desktop is gone and SO is definitely faster. However when you launch say SO word processor and spreadsheet, they are actually two threads of same program. Check display driver and Have some good amount of RAM, like 64MB at least. 128MB recommended. By any chance is mobo at fault? try compiling kernel. May be an older mobo started to show cracks?(Older is relative etrm. Anything older than 6 months is old...)
