I have a Pentium-4 1.5 GHz computer with 256 MB RAM and 40 GB hard disk. I have 4 VFAT32 partitions on one of which I wish to instal Linux. I am aware that Linux can be installed on a such a partition with some speed penalty. But I've also heard about software like PartitionMagic. How safe is it to try converting one of these to a ext2 filesystem and try installing Linux on it ? Which version of Linux should I go for and which distribution -- I have several versions of RedHat, SUSE, and Corel too.
