Normally, begin wget sessions with the wget -c -v option from
the word go, instead of resuming with -c when broken.  I case
you  do not want the progress monitor, -v may be omited. When
invoked with the -c option wget  flushes  the buffers perodi-
cally, and resumptions are error-free. Though man wget states 
that -c is not necessary  for resumptions, being  the default
behaviour, practical experience somehow varies ...

compressed or binary file) use "tset" from ncurses-bin package
Usually the  command  "reset"  will  clear the screen for you. 
"reset" is merely a symlink to the program "tset".
