Hello all,
I personally feel that GNU/Linux installation into the M$
Extended Partition can and should be avoided especially if it is a fresh
installation. As Bish had indicated using the old fdisk we can create a
Primary GNU/Linux Native partition(hda3) and Primary GNU/Linux Swap
Partition(hda4) leaving the first two for a M$ Primary and M$ Extended
Partitions. This can be done using the fdisk available at installation time
by choosing the cylinders start and end boundaries. Also only one mount
point(/) needs to be given on the Primary GNU/Linux Native partition. Also
approx 20 cylinders(about 200 MB on a 20 GB HDD) can be created for the swap.
I am using the term GNU/Linux because Richard Stallman when he visited India
sometime back urged the public to prefix the GNU as he felt Linux was just
not the proper name for the OS. Correct me if I am wrong.
Have a good day,
G.Sriram.
