Grab your monitor manual and find ranges for HSync and VSync. Be root and edit 
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4. 

Find 2 fields HorizSync and VertRefresh. Put the ranges in there.. Don't put 
values. Put ranges..

If you have installed XF86-3.3.6, edit /etc/X11/XF86config instead...

May be a good time to tell mandrake as well that when you select generic 
monitor in GUI X config, may be you should allow to key in hsync/vsync ranges. 
Would be a nice touch..
