This is an extremely difficult proposition with existing dis-
tros. At least you should be connected to the net. The opt-
ions are a) attach an extenal modem b) network card c) borrow
a CD temporarily for install.

"Floppies only" possibility that I think of is:

a) Download full pygmy linux on another machine. It is about
10 mb (zip file). It has kernel 2.2.16 and takes Slack-
packages. All commonly used progs are included.Split this
   into 9 floppies using a M$ splitter.

b) Format your old box with plain M$ 6.2 or DR-DOS 7.0 or
   equivalent.

c) Copy these 9 floppies to hard disk and join them to the
original zip file. Do a pkunzip on it. A running "pygmy"
linux will be installed (UMSDOS install) ! You can boot
with loadlin. Getting mysql is another problem. It is too
big. The same split and join technique would have to be
applied here as well. You may even consider postgres. It
   is a single tarball.

If you can somehow hook this box to the internet using an
external modem, it may be worthwhile considering putting a
small debian on it. All you need to do is download 5 images,
and write them to disk. Once the basic system is set up, you
can add packages directly from the net with apt-get. Visit
http://www.debian.org for the info/ images.

XEmacs and Emacs are distinct editors, with many similarities.
Both of them provide graphical user interfaces in X windows.
If you want to use them in "console mode" (on an xterm), you
can invoke them as `emacs -nw' or `xemacs -nw'
