I'll second that Mukund. I have never had a /boot partition
even once in the last 6+ years on Linux.This segregation of
/boot came about  because of problems of  LILO and  the the 
1024-voodoo, and the popularity of RH since 98 or so ... It
was RH which started advocating this segregation. Loadlin &
NT boot.ini has no 1024-voodoo problems. Neither does grub.
But somehow, the mindset of having a /boot and booting thru
LILO has become synonymous with doing things the right way! 
People even repartition to create a /boot to appease LILO !
