The Pcq linux 7.1 comes with the requisite driver. Search the CD for sm56*.rpm and installl it if not already run sm56setup from shell and u get ur modem working :) Well that was the good part of the story . The next part is that MOTOROLA has shutdown softmodem chipset operation so they r not releasing any new driver modules (which are closed ) so they r supported only till 2.4.5 I think :( (I Tried them on 2.4.8 and 2.4.14 but failed). 7.1 comes with 2.4.2 by default and so its not a problem but upgrade the kernel or install some recent distro and it...:(.
