I do not get the idea what you mean by this, you configured a static IP address on this machine ?? Did it not exist earlier ? or did u not have a static IP address earlier. Well static IP address is give by INTERNIC you cannot just add some entry to it and what you have entered is a INTRANET IP address and not a static IP address. > Then I configured the /etc/hosts file in Linux box and I am able to ping > from both machines. > When I give ping command from linux box, the packets are transmitted and > received continuosly till I give Ctrl-C and stop. At the end I get something > like 0% packet loss. > From windows only 4 - 6 entries and here also 0% packet loss. You remove the entries from the /etc/hosts file and try to ping your Windows m/c and see how much time it takes and what is the transmission loss, if the time taken is more then you have to configure a DNS server for your n/w. > But I am unable to use FTP or Telnet from both the machines. > I get the messaage: > unable to connect to remote host:connection refused. You cannot FTP or telnet to a Windows m/c unless you have installed IIS on the Windows m/c By default you can ftp or telnet to a Unix m/c. Try to login to the Linux m/c with a normal user account and not root. > Help me > Regards, > Vinod > > > _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
