Hi all,

Has anybody here done a SaMBa implementation? OR
Has atleast installed and configured SaMBa? AND
Has detailed knowledge about how it works?

If yes, can I ask a few questions regarding the same?

Eagerly awaiting reply.

Hello,
I have implementated file sharing(not print sharing) between
two dual boot machines(again only WIN98SE & PCQLinux 7.1) on my home
network. I have done it only at the workgroup level and not at the
Domain or Forest levels of NT & 2k.
You will have to make certain configurations on your linux
box. The file to be modified is /etc/samba/smb.conf. You will have to
choose things like server name, server string, workgroup name, Shares etc.
Also you will have to decide either to go for Encrypted passwords or
Plain text passwords. If you go for Encrypted passwords you have to run
a script called "mksmbpasswd.sh" to map linux box user passwords to the
"smbpasswd" file. If you go for plain text passwords then you have to
create a Key in the registry of your WIN9X box and do what ?(obviously
reboot).
This is a start. Rest depends on your specific query. My
samba is still only 2.0.8. As I have stated earlier I dont know about
the Domain/Forest angle at all.
After all these changes, using "ntsysv" enable the smbd &
nmbd daemons to be started at bootup.

RTFM,
G.Sriram,
Trichy.
