Hi kingsly,

Thanks a lot for the reply.
But if I remember the thing (Did it quite some time ago) when u go to
verisign site and upload the CSR for the Digital certificates there's no
place where we mention the Web server we are using or the OS it's meant for.
so should'nt the certificates work by mere copying and setting it up on
apache.
And is'nt SSL a protocol supposed to be implemented uniformly across all
platform/web_Servers.

 |Install mod_ssl for Apache. You can generate certificates using openssl.

Not that simple ... the certificates are dependent on the webserver you
are using ... some servers share the certificate format ... while others
don't... knowing M$FT's history.. I am pretty sure that they'll fall into
latter category ... so you may have to shell out $100 for a new cert! ...
or check if the the certificate vendor has an option of exchanging
certificates... thawte has a pretty extensive list of things a customer
can do on their site) but look on the bright side... you will be saving
the hundreds of dollars that a Windows XP server edition would have costed
you!! ;-)

PS: Encryption is a Pain when used by the wrong people ... just spent a
long time today mixing and matching more than half dozen Private Keys with
SSL Certs !... to find the *one* valid certificate from them!! (my client
got them mixed up)

A perfect case of black and blue socks in a dark room... and guess what
... the matching pair was the last combination that I tried! :-(
