Just to be sure that the nic's are working fine try pinging to the same
machine on which ur typing the ping command.
If thats successful then the problem seems to be either with the connectors
or the cable.
Usually its the loose connectors / terminators that are the cause of
trouble.
Just to be doubly sure use the RJ 45 connectors and the utp cable.
