hello,
i am a two day old newbie to linux. i have a microtek digisync monitor with
model no 1456d and a sis 305 agp card.
i installed linux and when the first time it asked for card and monitor i
selected generic for both types and i set resolution to 640*480 at 60hz and
it worked for me.
and things were working pretty fine. then i found a little problem. some
windows become larger than the screen and i cannot resize them to fit to
screen. a typical example
was in the mandrake control centre i had this window manager config
subsection and under that there was a miscellaneous section. once i click
this ,my control centre
window resizes itself to be larger than my screen. and i cannot possibly in
any way click on the ok or cancel button on the bottom of that window so i
have to do a kill
app to close it.
so i thought i need to change some thing some where so tried to change my
card in the config to sis( the nearest thing i could get was sis 300 ) and
for monitor i tried to
the generic monitor with higher resolution.( i dont have to manual for the
monitor so dont know the resolution and freq) now the problem happened that
when it says test
and got that dolphin foto. and when i say yes to the question "do you see
the pic correctly" the screen goes crazy. like what happens is that the
image of pinguins sort of
freezes with some vertical spilts in the image and thats it if i hit any kbd
key i hear beep sounds and system hangs.
now i need to know how to configure my card and monitor. the microtek web
site is not usefull enough so can u sugest me where i can find info on this.

JAgan
