find / -type f 2>/dev/null | xargs du -sk | sort -nr | more

Would show you the files in decreasing order of size. Saw quite a few
people discussing it. You don't need script etc for this. Instead of /,
you could have /etc, /home - or whatever you like.

Parsing through some 4000 messages I haven't had time to go through. So
forgive late responses.
