Start the sendmail service ... and read http://www.sendmail.org/faq/ -
especially http://www.sendmail.org/faq/section5.html#5.3.3 for gods sake.
Before you ask further questions, 90% of which will be answered in that FAQ.

Log in to Single user mode. At the LILO boot prompt type in :-
'linux 1 init=/bin/sh root=/dev/hdaN' mount rw (where N is the 
number of  your root partition).  Then change the password for 
root with the command: '#passwd'
