Revert to the source you have.

The timer mechanisms implemented on the kernel called Linux is available
for you to study and re-implement via the *free* software license called
as the GNU GPL.  Get the  source code of the kernel and gunzip/untar it.
Read the  c sources under /linux/kernel/ particularly  itimer, time, and
timer.  Please search the web too....
