The sancharnet is a man made mess.
1. All user are authenticated at Delhi on single server ( around 1.25 lacs).
The server runs out of resources and many refuses valid user.
2. The SMTP server are geographically located at server places, mostly with
open relay or denying their own IP.
3. Initially they had a couple of proxy server for (1.25 lac user) but
subsequently died naturally due to load.
4. At present sancharnet is in total shamble, routing tables messed up, vsnl
not recognizing their IP, mail server even more messed up.

This is typical example of govt.'s half hearted approach.
