I will say first graduate to *NIX programming then take Linux kernel ...
port it to ur target hardware (iff it is already ported to ur hardware then
trim it) .... then make ur own lib for ur target HW and then port the apps
which u need. Remember in typical embby, u have to make memory footprint as
small as possible.

Say, for example, In my case, I do run Linux Kernel 2.4.16, Web server, ssh
server, pppoe, iptables, dhcp sever in 9mb of memory foot print in my
mipsel based hardware.
