Why not try "--nodeps" If redhat has given this option then we can use it, even if it mean forcing a kernel. :) Which reminds me of options like "--ignorearch" and "--ignoreos" which i have used on a PIV machine which had kernel 2.2.14 and was refusing to install rpms.
