well, i've never had to use <shift> for this. ctrl+alt+<Function key> works fine for me, whether in or out of X. i once faced a problem similar to what murali describes, and it was caused by a very old monitor which could not handle X properly. murali, could you change your monitor temporarily and see whether that works? of course, if you change to a different monitor model, you'll have to modify your XF86Config. - t. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
