My motheboard is an i810. I had the same problem. I managed
to solve the problem by compiling the kernel without DRM/DRI support. I
also unloaded the module from the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. Now it is
working well but without DRI support. Look at /var/log/XFree86.0.log ,
especially the last lines for any clues. The problem in my case was that
the kernel is new(2.4.17) and XFree86 is old(4.0.3). The latest kernel
asks for XFree 4.1.0 or later for DRM/DRI support.

i have a celeron 533 which runs red hat 7.0. lately
when i run my x windows (startx) i get nothing on the
screen. even the cntrl+alt+n virtual consoles not
work.
but when i press cntrl+alt+del i can see my hard disk
activity and the system restarts i.e it is able to
shutdown.
what is the problem. pleaase help me.
