THe refresh rate on the mode line may be overdriving the monitor. Try lowering the refresh rate or use a modeline with a lower refresh rate.
Also, use xvidtune to change the horizontal and vertical timings of the video mode. Sometimes a combination of the refresh and timings makes the monitor cry out :) Another way to probably make the whine go away is to reduce the VSync/HSync refresh freqeuncy slightly to make X choose a lower refresh rate (one that is within the monitor's capabilities)... -Naren On Mon, 11 Mar 2002, Kingsly John wrote: > > Ever since I upgraded to 4.1.0 my monitor (Samtron 75E) is making a > continous high pitched noise at 1280x1024 .. it disappears the moment I > cycle to a lower resolution. > > I'm using a NVIDIA TNT2 Ultra with the NVIDIA kernel drivers. > > Any pointers on ways to eliminate the noise ?
