Defrag is a requirement of the file system in use and not
Linux per se. Most current distros are built on ext2 file
system which is robust with inbuilt code to keep fragmen-
tation to a minimum. There is hardly a need for a  defrag
utility for ext2.

However, a defrag utility for ext, ext2 and minix is ava-
ilable at http://sunsite.unc.edu:
